House fire claims six lives near Muzaffargarh

MUZAFFARGARH: Six members of a family lost their lives and two others suffered injuries in a house fire in Sanawan, about 35km from here, on Friday. The cause of the fire was said to be an electricity short circuit.

The deceased were identified as Hamid, 8, Arsalan, 4, Naureen, 14, and baby Hania — all children of Imran — Amna, wife of Allah Wasaya, and their son Tahir Abbas. None of them could come out of the room which caught fire.

Haleema Mai, wife of Imran, suffered burn injuries. She said she gave meal to her children after they returned from school and asked them to take rest. She said the door of the room where they slept was locked and neighbours had to break its rear wall when the fire spread.

Rescuers took the unconscious victims to Sanawan’s Rural Health Centre, where no doctor was present. Six of the injured died.
