Fund-raiser held in Abbottabad for kidney patients

ABBOTTABAD: A fund-raiser was held here on Sunday for the treatment of poor patients admitted to the kidney centre in Havelian tehsil.

Prominent poet and drama writer Prof Amajd Islam Amjad and famous comic poet and writer Anwar Masood were guests of honour at the fund raiser.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Khalilur Rehman, chairman of Pakistan Welfare Society, said kidney disease was fast spreading as currently over 10 million people were suffering from this disease which needed proper attention and awareness among public to control the ailment.

Dr Rehman said the Havelian kidney centre established a year ago was providing dialysis and diagnostic services to the people of all the districts of Hazara division.

He said 70 per cent patients were provided sponsored treatment, adding 12 dialysis machines had been gifted by the philanthropists from Pakistani community in Jeddah.

He said they planned to establish mobile field clinics to ensure early diagnostic facility at early stage as there were number of reasons for kidney failure like diabetes and internal disorder which can be prevented by early diagnosis and treatment.

On the occasion, poets Mr Islam and Mr Masood asked the participants to spare some time from the routine to serve the ailing humanity by way of financial help or working with the charity organisations.

Hazara University Vice-Chancellor Prof Habib Ahmed, while addressing the function, offered screening facility and awareness campaign by the varsity’s faculty of health sciences.

MPA Amna Sardar and Abbottabad District Nazim Sardar Sher Bahadar also spoke on the occasion and pledged their support to the cause of the kidney centre.

DOCTORS’ APPOINTMENT: The selection committees notified by the board of governors of Ayub Medical Institute on Sunday recommended names for appointments to the top three senior management slots of the Institute, including dean, medical director and hospital director, after conducting interviews of candidates.

The names included head of gynecology department Prof Aziz-un-Nisa for the slot of dean, acting medical director Prof Salim Afzal for medical director and Brig (r) Dr Mohammad Ajmal Khan as hospital director for next three years.
