Enrolment campaign begins in Mohmand

GHALANAI: The residents of Mohmand Agency are much enthusiastic about seeking education after restoration of peace in the region.

This was stated by political agent Mehmood Aslam Wazir after inaugurating the school enrolment campaign for the agency at the Government Middle School in Baizai sub-division here.

The function was attended by assistant political agent Abdullah Shah, Colonel Imtiaz Khan, Agency Education Officer Saeed Gul, officials of the relevant departments, security officials, tribal elders, schoolteachers, students and tribesmen.

The PA said peace had been completely restored in the area and that education could help in the area’s development.

“The Fata Secretariat has begun a programme to close down all schools with low enrolments and therefore, the people should enrol more and more children in schools to prevent their closure,” he said.

Mr. Wazir said the development of health and education sectors in the border area was the administration’s top priority and that a high school would be built in the area.

He said opinion makers, including elders, should create awareness among parents, of the importance of education children.

The PA said once Pak-Afghan security situation became normal, the Gursal trade route would be reopened.

He said the government had approved a special development package of Rs30 million for the militancy-hit Khwezai Biazai area.

Colonel Imtiaz said since peace had been completely restored in the region and reconstruction had begun, there was a need for promoting education.

AEO Saeed Gul urged parents to enrol their children in schools.

He said the teachers not doing their duty diligently would have to mend their ways for the promotion of education.

He said the school enrolment campaign targeted 13,000 children.

Prizes and School bags were later distributed among students.

There followed an enrolment awareness walk, which began at the Government Middle School Bahi Daag and ended at the Rural Health Centre, Bahi Daag.
