Govt urged to simplify arms’ licences procedure

TOBA TEK SIGH, Nov 15: People have urged the government to simplify the procedure for issuance of arms’ licences as robberies are on the rise.

The provincial government has allocated 15 licences per month to small districts, including Toba, which are to be issued only to the government officers of Grade 17 and above or tax-payers.

For getting an arms licence, one has to appear before the deputy district officer for revenue who marks the application to the licence branch of DCO office, which verifies the contents of application and sends it to the DPO who in turn sends it to the police station concerned for verification by the sub-divisional police officer.

The DCO then forwards the application to the Punjab home secretary for issuance of licence.
