ABBOTTABAD: PTI chief Imran Khan on Tuesday said his party’s government had allocated Rs8 billion for the reconstruction of schools damaged by the 2005 earthquake in the province and that 760 of them would be rebuilt in the one-year time.

He said this while talking to reporters after inaugurating the newly-constructed Comprehensive Girls Primary School in Karimpura area here. The school was built as a non-strategic scheme of the government.

Imran Khan said Rs17 billion was required for the reconstruction of the earthquake-hit schools in the province but the federal government didn’t release the promised Rs4 billion.

He said the provincial government had allocated special funds for the purpose.

“We believe education is the basic need of every child and since we want to build the Phara Likkha Pakistan, we are providing youths with the necessary infrastructure and facilities to study,” he said.

The PTI chief said a total of 76 new schools would be constructed in Hazara division.

He criticised the Punjab and federal government over Islamabad violence by a mob and said the PML-N governments had failed to protect public life and property.

Imran Khan said the KP government had freed the local police from all pressures and would table a bill in the assembly within two weeks to grant more freedom to the police.

“After the imminent legislation, the police in the province will be more independent and will deliver the goods to the relief of the common man,” he said.

On the occasion, district education officer (female) Samina Iltaf said all schools in Abbottabad district had been provided with desks and benches.

She said the department had enrolled 6,000 students in primary schools.

The DEO said efforts would continue to provide the children with the best possible environment to study.

RECOMMENDATIONS FINALISED: A special committee of the Ayub Teaching Hospital Abbottabad has recommended names for appointment to the posts of medical director, hospital director and dean of the Ayub Medical College.

The recommendations in writing have been sent to the board of governor for decision.

The committee headed by Dr Syed Fazale Hadi, former executive director at PIMS of Islamabad, has recommended nine of the 57 candidates for the medical director’s post, eight of 16 for medical director’s, and all seven for dean’s.
