ISLAMABAD: Unseeded Nalain Abbas caused a major upset in the ATF U-14 Super Championship after defeating third seed Yanishkhe Cooray of Sri Lanka in their quarter-final at the PTF Complex on Tuesday.
Nalain’s double bagel victory, with his aggressive game from the base line, saw him join top seed Hamza Bin Rehan, Sami Zeb Khan and Britain’s Mohammad Said in the final four.
Hamza thrashed Samad Areejo 6-0, 6-2; fourth seed Sami Zeb eased past Sameer Ahmed 6-2, 6-3 and second seed Said — who is of Pakistani origin — overcame resistance from Rayan Jawad before prevailing 6-4, 6-1.
Zoha Asim and Rida Khan, meanwhile, set up the final of the girls’ singles without dropping a game in their last-four clashes. Zoha outclassed Yasha Attiq Khan while Rida crusied past Sheiza Zafar.
