Schools open after strike

LAHORE: Private schools in Punjab opened on Thursday after a two-day (Tuesday and Wednesday) closure in protest at the passage of the Punjab Private Educational Institutions (Promotion and Regulation Amendment) Bill, 2015.

The All-Pakistan Private Schools Federation and the Pakistan Education Council (PEC) said they hoped that the Punjab government would not force them to go for another strike. “The government has indicated bringing amendments to the new law on our recommendations,” PEC spokesman Kamran Malik told Dawn on Thursday.

He said it was hoped the government would not force the private schools to close the campuses for indefinite period. “It must withdraw or bring amendments to the new law,” he said.
