MQM holds protest outside UN building

NEW YORK: Scores of MQM supporters demonstrated in front of the UN building on Friday afternoon to protest a ban on party leader Altaf Hussain’s speeches and images in the Pakistani media.

During the demonstration, organised by the New York chapter of the party, some activists also staged a symbolic hunger strike in bitter cold weather and biting winds.

“We want to hear Altaf Hussain” and “Freedom of speech is our fundamental human right” were among some of the banners carried by the protesters. They also chanted slogans of “We will wrest freedom” and “Stop killing Muhajirs”.
