FCPS training

A MEDICAL and dental graduate who qualifies the first part of FCPS examination, has to undergo four-year training at a teaching institute recognised by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council and registered by the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan.

For the dental FCPS part one qualified candidate, the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) is the only recognised institute for training in Sindh except Karachi.

The number of FCPS part one qualified students is increasing. But the number of vacancies has not been enhanced. At present, LUMHS has 274 seats allocated for FCPS training. This number has not been increased for the last four to five years.

LUMHS authorities have submitted a summary to the Sindh government to allocate 500 seats for the FCPS training programme. The summary is lying with the Sindh chief minister. While every provincial government has increased training facilities for bright students, the Sindh government has been indifferent to the province’s students. I request the Sindh chief minister and vice-chancellor of LUMHS to resolve this issue.
