Call to follow merit in VC appointment

KARACHI: The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) in a statement released on Friday welcomed the order of the Sindh High Court under which the acting vice chancellor of the Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) has been barred from calling a university syndicate meeting scheduled for Feb 13.

The association demanded that the Sindh government follow rules and regulations in letter and spirit and appoint a vice chancellor to the university on merit.

“The PMA appreciates the order as the case against the appointment of the acting vice chancellor is still being heard by the court, which has restricted his administrative powers,” says a press release.

“The order has warned the acting vice chancellor that if he violated the court directives, contempt of court proceedings will be initiated against him immediately.”

The PMA demanded that the government appoint a vice chancellor strictly on merit.
