Sethi’s appointment challenged

ISLAMABAD: A former cricketer on Monday challenged the appointment of Najam Sethi as the Executive Committee chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Iqbal Ahmed in his petition, filed before the Islamabad High Court, requested the court that Mr Sethi may be restrained from working till final adjudication of the matter.

The petition contended that Mr Sethi while appearing before the Supreme Court during the case related to the appointment of Zaka Ashraf as PCB chairman had given an undertaking that he would not contest for the slot of PCB chairman.

The petition however said that after disposal of the case, Mr Sethi held key positions in the PCB and currently he is enjoying more authority than the PCB chairman.

According to the petition, Mr Sethi appointed and promoted former cricketers like Waqar Younis, Mushtaq Ahmed, Moin Khan, Basit Ali and Wasim Akram, on whose performance an inquiry commission comprising Justice Malik Qayyum and Justice Ijaz Younis raised several questions.

The petition requested the court to declare the appointment of Mr Sethi as Executive Committee chairman illegal till the final adjudication and he may be asked not to exercise any authority in PCB affairs.

IHC’s one-member bench comprising Justice Athar Minallah will hear the petition on Tuesday (today).
