PIA’s ‘dark underbelly’

WHAT amazes me is that more than 90pc of PIA protesters do not know what is privatisation or what good or bad implications it will have on their jobs or on the organisation. Perhaps they do not know what they are protesting against.

If PIA growth and development is the objective, then why does that irk the employees? If their jobs are secure despite privatisation and if the government has assured them, then I do not see any reason for PIA employees to come out on the road. If they think they will have to work, then that’s a different story.

This protest has become politicised.

APROPOS the article ‘Dark underbelly’ by Zeenat Hisam. I agree that “flawed government policies have led to the PIA crisis”. Similarly, these flawed policies are leading towards the destruction of our education system and other institutions which were once prestigious and profit-generating.

I agree with her last two options as a solution to the crisis — ‘freeze recruitment and offer generous retirement’ and ‘reintegrate workers into other form of employment’. Still the slogan of PIA echoes in our ears, “PIA: great people to fly with”.
