LHC dismisses plea against acting VC
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday dismissed an application for restraining Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran from functioning as acting vice chancellor of the Punjab University.
Dr Asmatullah filed the application through Advocate Azhar Siddique and pointed out that the extension given to Mujahid Kamran was discriminatory and against the law. He said a search committee, which was formed for appointing vice chancellors of different universities including the Punjab University, carried out its work without considering the issues raised before the court.
The counsel said while the search committee was busy in conducting interviews of the aspirants, the chief minister approved a summary for the appointment of Dr Kamran as acting vice chancellor of PU. His term expired on Jan 22, he added.
The counsel asked the court to restrain the respondent from working as acting vice chancellor and appoint any other senior professor instead till appointment of the new vice chancellor.
An additional advocate general argued that the application was non maintainable as main petitions on the matter were pending adjudication.
Justice Shahid Karim dismissed the application.
