30 schools warned, one shut down over poor security

DERA GHAZI KHAN: Thirty schools in Rajanpur district were issued warnings for poor security arrangements and one shut down by the administration.

Mock security excises were also held at various educational institutes in both Rajanpur and Dera Ghazi Khan districts by police.

Rajanpur District Police Officer Ghulam Mubashir Maikin told Dawn mock exercises were being held daily to keep enforcement agencies alert at all times. On Tuesday, a mock exercise was held at the District Public School.

He maintained that 30 educational institutes were issued warnings over poor security arrangements, while Beacon Hall Jampur was shut down.

In Dera Ghazi Khan, law enforcement agencies held a mock exercise at Ghazi Medical College.

District Police Officer retired Capt Atta Muhammad visited educational institutes, including Ghazi Khan University and Ghazi Khan Medical College, to take stock of security arrangements.

Guards of private security companies working in both districts were being trained by police.

ROBBERY: Two unidentified suspects on a motorbike intercepted a Karachi-bound trailer loaded with cement, looted cash from the driver at gunpoint, burst tyres of the vehicle and fled.

A trailer on its way from a cement factory in Dera Ghazi Khan and loaded with bags of cement was intercepted on the factory road by two unidentified men.

According to driver Khushabad, the men deprived him of Rs147,000 at gunpoint. Before fleeing from the scene, they fired at the tyres of the trailer.

Drivers of other trailers blocked the factory road in protest against lack of safety on the busy road.
