BISP playing key role in empowering women, says Marvi Memon

QUETTA: Chairperson of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Marvi Memon has urged legislators to play their role for reducing poverty in their areas and helping needy women there to get themselves registered with the BISP.

Ms Memon was talking to Speaker of Balochistan Assembly Raheela Durrani during a meeting held here on Sunday. The meeting was attended by a number of provincial legislators belonging to different political parties.

The BISP chairperson said the government was determined to eliminate poverty from the country and the BISP was playing an important role towards that end.

Describing the BISP and the Prime Minister Interest Free Loan programme as revolutionary, she said these schemes had been designed to empower women by making them financially independent.

Ms Memon said the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project would bring prosperity for the people of Balochistan. It would generate millions of jobs and opportunities for businesses, she said, adding that the project would also provide opportunities to women.

Speaker Durrani appreciated the measures being taken under the BISP for reducing poverty in Balochistan. She said the programme was bringing about positive change in the province by providing financial help to poor women.
