Ban on pillion-riding in Karachi from tonight

KARACHI: The Sindh government on Tuesday announced a ban on pillion-riding across the province from Wednesday night to Thursday in line with the Chehlum security arrangement.

An official said that the provincial home department on the advice of police authorities banned pillion-riding in the city. The ban would become effective from 10pm on Wednesday (today) and remain in place till Thursday, Dec 3.

“The home department has under Section 144 of the criminal procedure code imposed a complete ban on pillion-riding of motorbikes across Sindh from 10pm, Dec 2 to 3,” he said while citing the home department notification. “The ban shall not be applicable on women, children below the age of 12 years, senior citizens, journalists, personnel of law enforcement agencies and security agencies in uniform and employees of the essential services.”

Holidays announced

All educational institutions in Sindh will remain closed from Dec 3 (Thursday) to Dec 5 (Saturday), according to a notification issued by the Sindh education department on Tuesday.
