Progress on NAP implementation reviewed

MUZAFFARABAD: A high-level meeting presided over by the Poonch division commissioner reviewed on Friday progress on the implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) in all districts of the division. It was decided that the monitoring system would be made more effective and security beefed up.

The meeting was attended by all four deputy commissioners, police superintendents and other administrative officers who pointed out issues in their jurisdictions and sought directives to improve security, including extradition of non-state subjects, particularly Afghan refugees and unregistered non-governmental organisations working in their areas.

Commissioner Khan Zaffar Khan directed the administrators and magistrates to keep an eye on the NGOs and said strict action would be taken against the unregistered NGOs or those working against the policies of the government.

He also asked the deputy commissioners to motivate assistant commissioners to ensure that these decisions were effectively implemented. He said security checks should be made at all entry and exit points to Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The commissioner said maintaining security was a prime duty of the administration and the threat of terrorism had made it a challenge. Special measures are being taken to ensure it.
