ISLAMABAD: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the capital police was booked for his alleged involvement in the unintentional killing of a citizen.

The family of Itefaq Ahmed, 59, a cardiac patient, complained to the police that he was subjected to torture by the ASI which claimed his life on November 21.

The ASI, who was stationed at the Khana police station, went to a house in Bhara Kahu which was owned by his brother-in-law and rented to Ahmed. The ASI used to collect the rent on behalf of his brother-in-law.

Ahmed had just returned from the Federal Government Services Hospital where he was kept at the coronary care unit (CCU) when the police official visited the house and asked him to pay the rent. When Ahmed sought time, the ASI asked him to vacate the house at the end of the month.

The police said after asking Ahmed to vacate the house, the ASI left the spot and Ahmed went inside and died. After some time, when the ASI returned to the house and rang the doorbell, Ahmed’s family members came out and beat him up.

Later, the police reached the house and shifted the body to hospital for an autopsy and the report was still awaited.

The police said the case was registered under section 322 (murder without intention or reason) and 452 (lurking house/trespass or housebreaking by night in order to commit offence). A police officer on the condition of anonymity said an investigation would be held on the basis of the autopsy report.
