Firing by lawyer: terror clauses deleted from FIR

GUJRANWALA: Anti-Terrorism Court No 1 Judge Chaudhry Imtiaz Ahmad ordered on Saturday the police to delete terror clauses from the first information report (FIR) lodged against MNA Rana Shamim Ahmad’s son Rana Abdul Rahim.

Civil Lines police had lodged the FIR against Rahim for firing in district courts.

The judge directed him to appear before the magistrate in Sialkot. Suspect Rahim is a lawyer.

Police said he was drunk when he opened fire from his chamber on district courts. Police arrested him and seized illegal arms and wine from him.

Later, a medical report from the Government Allama Iqbal Memorial Hospital also confirmed the lawyer was under the influence.

MAYOR RACE: Four aspirants for the mayor slot have emerged from the PML-N ranks.

PML-N sources said on Saturday Sheikh Sarwat Ikram, former Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry president, is being backed by federal minister Khuram Dasatgir, while industrialist Rizwan Aslam Butt is lobbying as a candidate of state minister Barrister Usman Ibrahim.

Pomi Butt is presenting himself as a candidate of MNA Hamza Shahbaz while Saeed Gujjar is also meeting councillors. In the elections, the PML-N bagged 100 seats in the Gujranwala Municipal Corporation and district council. Independent and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf candidates got 56 and 11 seats.

RALLY: Journalists took out on Saturday a procession in protest at an attack on the office of Dunya News in Faisalabad.

The procession, led by press club president Tariq Munir Butt, was addressed by Dr Javed Akram, Yasir Ali Jutt and Tariq Munir who demanded that the government arrest the culprits involved in the attack and take measures to protect the media from such attacks in the future.
