Ashraf Sohna on physical remand

OKARA: An anti-terrorism court on Monday gave the police two-day physical remand of PTI leader Ashraf Khan Sohna, his two sons and brother and accomplices.

Sohna was arrested on the polling day along with his sons, Sohna Bilal Ashraf and Mashud Mansha and brother Muhammad Mansha for torturing a presiding officer.

The City B division police had registered the case under various sections including 7-ATA against them.

ATC Lahore judge Khwaja Zafar Iqbal sent all the 17 accused on physical remand.

Meanwhile, the PTI supporters protested against the arrest of Ashraf Sohna and others.

LAWYERS: The district bar association (DBA) observed a complete strike against the City B-division police for allegedly breaking into the house of Advocate Fayyazul Haq Azhar who was also the PTI candidate from municipality ward-17.

Azhar was accused of quarreling with the polling staff, damaging the ballot boxes and tearing of ballot papers.

DBA President Chaudhry Aslam Javed told this correspondent the DBA had held strike only against the unlawful entry of police to the house of the bar member, Azhar, and it had no concern with any other incident related to election.

BOOKED: The City A-division police registered a case against 200 people, including PML-N and PTI candidates, under various sections, including the 7-ATA.

Fifty of the booked people were identified and they included PML-N candidate Mirza Naeem Baig, PTI candidate Rao Muhammad Sufyan, Rana Rafaqat (independent) and former UC nazim Muhammad Afzal Paegi.

They were accused of blocking the road, setting banners on fire of the winning candidates Abdul Hameed Juj, chanting slogans against administration and pelting police with stones in municipality ward-32. Over the incidents related to election, two cases each were registered with Basirpur and Gogera police stations.
