Govt policies on Balochistan to be resisted, says Mengal

QUETTA, Oct 24: Former chief minister and Balochistan National Party (Mengal) president Sardar Akhtar Mengal has said the adventurous policies aimed at imbalancing of the demographic ratio of the province will face tough resistance.

Speaking at a public meeting on Thursday at Panjgur on the eve of the death anniversary of Nazir Muhammad and Nasir Ahmed who were killed by the law enforcement agency last year, he announced that the Balochs would not allow the usurpers to decide the fate of Balochistan.

On the one hand Gen Musharraf apologises for the past victimization of the Balochistan’s people, but on the other, his colleagues dub them as anti-state elements, he said, adding that this dual standard has exposed the designs of the rulers to divide and exploit us.

The BNP-Mengal leader stated that the establishment of cantonments or forts in the province to ensure completion of uplift projects was to add to the people sufferings as they already had bad experiences in this regard.

He rebutted the government arguement that the progress of the coastal belt depended on the construction of a modern seaport in Gwadar and alleged that domestic and international financiers were purchasing native land at the highest price to settle capitalists and labourers from Punjab on permanent basis.

The federal government, he alleged, wants to turn the Balochs into minority and eliminate our culture and traditions. These designs would remain dreams as the Balochs know as to how to defend their motherland.

The former chief minister described the accusation that nationalists were playing into the hands of foreign enemies as an attempt to psychologically force the people in stopping opposition of the anti-people uplift programmes.

This dirty campaign cannot change our determination and struggle, he warned.

Sardar Mengal stressed upon the nationalist parties to join hands to counter the ulterior designs of the usurpers and protect the resources, honour and dignity of the motherland.

Baloch Students’ Organization chairman Malik Baloch and others also spoken on the occasion.

MMA: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal provincial leader, Maulana Noor Mohammad, has said that the imported education system was the main cause of problems faced by the people in the society and urged the teachers to play their role to bring change in the educational curriculum.

Speaking at the oath-taking ceremony of the Watan Teachers’ Association here on Thursday opposition leader in Balochistan Assembly Kachkol Ali Baloch claimed that the aliens overpowered Muslims when the latter abandoned the Islamic education.

Niaz Baloch president of the WTA presided over the function.

Both MNAs, Maulana Noor Mohammad and Kachkol Ali Baloch, were critical of the government policies particularly in the education sector and urged the teachers that they should play their role to improve the standard of education as government was least interested in this field.
