Dignity day observed

The children of Mashal Model School, a charity organisation, on Thursday performed skits and a puppet show to highlight the concept of dignity and how society treats street children.

In a function organised by Mashal Model School and an NGO, ‘Right to Play’, the students shed light on the social issue of discrimination against street children. In a skit, the students told the audience how the street children were being humiliated by police officials in various spots, particularly in front of Bari Imam Shrine.

“By taking part in this skit, I tried to highlight the miseries of the street children,” said Zahir Shah, a student. He said some police officials were also seen snatching shopping bags from the street children.

“We organised this event to highlight the concept of dignity and how society should treat children with special needs and ability,” said Zeba Husain, who runs the Mashal School at Nurpur Shahan.

Rights activist Muneeba Mazari said it was our obligation to provide basic healthcare and education to children. The global dignity day emphasises the need to facilitate children from every background to exercise their right to lead a dignified life.
