Govt not to tolerate negligence in anti-polio programme: official

QUETTA: The coordinator of the Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) for Balochistan, Dr Syed Saif-ur-Rehman, has said the EOC will not tolerate any negligence by officials responsible for polio vaccination campaigns in the province and promised that every possible step will be taken to maintain the cold-chain of vaccines.

He said this while chairing a meeting of the Vaccine Management Committee comprising senior officials of the WHO, Unicef, N-stop, and Extended Programme for Immunisation.

Unicef and WHO heads informed the meeting about the shortage of vaccines and poor supply of logistics. WHO’s official said Islamabad needed to understand that Balochistan covers half of Pakistan in terms of landmass which was why provision of logistics and maintaining cold chain was more difficult than in other provinces.
