Concern over suspension of hospitals funds

THATTA: The All Pakistan Clerks Association (health wing) and Paramedical Staff Association (PSA) of Thatta and Sujawal districts have called for devising strategies to deal with suspension of funds meant for 13 hospitals by the finance department and handing over of these health facilities to a non-governmental organisation (NGO).

In a hurriedly-called meeting here on Wednesday, APCA and PSA leaders said they had already moved the Sindh High Court on the subject where their petition was still under process. But the finance department had suspended all the non-salary funds of these hospitals so as to build up pressure on them to withdraw their petition, they alleged.

They told Dawn that the district headquarters hospitals known as civil hospitals of Sujawal and Thatta district, taluka hospitals of Mirpur Sakro, Mirpur Bathoro, Sujawal, Jati and other areas were being deprived of their regular and routine funds.

The leaders said the Sindh government seemed to have taken its final decision to hand over these health facilities under the administrative umbrella of NGOs, spreading a sense of insecurity and deprivation among the staff.

The leaders said that a plan for a protest campaign was discussed in the meeting.
