$5 billion remitted in first quarter

ISLAMABAD: Overseas Pakistani workers sent home nearly $5 billion in the first three months (July to September) of this fiscal year, a growth of 4 per cent over the same quarter of last year, the State Bank said on Monday.

The inflow of workers’ remittances during September 2015 amounted to $1.775bn, which is 16pc higher than August 2015 and 1.57pc higher than September 2014.

Inflows from Saudi Ara­bia, UAE, US, UK, GCC countries (including Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Oman) and EU countries amounted to $483.2m, $428.1m, $26­1m, $233.27m, $201.34m and $33.3m, respectively, compared with $495.63m, $396.28m, $252.07m, $226.72m, $216.84m and $34.45m in September 2014.

Remittances received from Norway, Switzerland, Australia, Canada, Japan and other countries during the month collectively amounted to $135.65m as against $126.5m in September 2014.
