26 suspects held in search operation

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad police and Rangers conducted a joint search operation on Sunday in various parts of the city and arrested 26 suspects. They also searched 150 houses and recovered weapons and drugs.

The Islamabad Police and Pak Rangers, in the early hours of Sunday, conducted a search operation in Noon village, the area under Sabzi Mandi police station and other nearby areas where they searched houses, workshops, markets and under-construction buildings.

The combined force arrested 26 suspects who are being investigated further.

During the operation, two motorbikes, one 7mm gun, four 12 bore guns, one SMG, eight pistols, 573 bullets, two magazines and 458 grams of narcotics were also recovered.

The operation was part of extensive plans to maintain peace in the upcoming month of Muharram.

According to police sources comprehensive plans have been drawn up to thoroughly search the city. The operation has been initiated and the police are checking slum areas, inns, hotels and restaurants.

A police source said these measures were being taken to ensure foolproof security during Muharram and to keep a close eye on suspected elements.

Polices sources say SDPOs and SHOs have been directed to be vigilant and to continue the operation during Muharram.
