Warne offers to help Adil Rashid

SYDNEY: Spin icon Shane Warne says he would love to help leg-spinner Adil Rashid establish himself as a Test regular for England.

Yorkshire all-rounder Rashid is expected to make his Test debut against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates this month after breaking into the ODI side over the summer.

And cricket’s greatest leggie, who finished with 708 wickets from 145 Tests for Australia, wants to see Rashid become a first-choice selection.

He told the Daily Telegraph: “Yes, 100 per cent I would like to work with him.

“I spoke to him when he was a young kid, he was impressive. I help a lot of leg-spinners or general spinners during the year and I would love to help Rashid if the opportunity arises.

“I hope he grabs his chance, it would be great to see England have a leg-spinner.”

Ian Salisbury, who played 15 Tests between 1992 and 2000, is the closest England have come to a regular wrist-spinner in modern times.

Chris Schofield was capped twice in 2000, while Durham’s Scott Borthwick played the final game of England’s Ashes whitewash in Australia last year.
