Ajoka’s cross-border theatrics

Ajoka Theatre is not bothered about the right-wing government in India. The group is brave. But why? Does art have the power to overcome all your fears? It seems so.

Ajoka Theatre has recently returned from India where it took part in a theatre festival in Delhi (Sept 14-17) performing not one but four of its acclaimed plays — Bullah, Dara, Kon Hai Yeh Gustakh and Lo Phir Basant Aaee. The group is feeling good about it, because it claims its effort was widely appreciated by the Indian media.

The festival was followed by a seminar on the subject of theatre for peace. The speakers from the Pakistani side included Shahid Mahmood Nadeem, Madiha Gauhar and the renowned playwright Asghar Nadeem Syed. Peace: such a beautiful word!
