Volunteer force raised in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: The district administration has formed a 600-member volunteer force to seek public support in case of any disaster.

In this connection an introductory session was held at Nishtar Hall on Thursday with deputy commissioner of Peshawar in the chair. Six hundred people including 60 female participated in the session.

The participants were briefed on multi-media about the function of the volunteer force and told that that public support was must in of case of disaster, mega sports event, cleanliness drive, plantation campaign, anti-polio vaccination and creation of awareness about traffic issues.

The participants expressed their views about the volunteer force and gave suggestions in this regard. They assured the administration of extending full support in the pubic interests.

The volunteers were educated about the process as to how they could take part in an emergency situation. However, detailed briefings would be given to them by the officials concerned with passing of time.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the administration said that at least 15 shops were demolished on Ring Road as part of the ongoing campaign against encroachments. The shops, he said, were constructed on the state land without any permission.
