Candidates ‘stage inauguration’ of health facility

TOBA TEK SINGH: A candidate for Union Council 70 chairman and another for vice chairman in Pirmahal opened on Thursday an abandoned sub-health centre in Basti Gill Acres.

Candidates Aroojul Hasan and Anwaar Husain Shahni got painted the abandoned centre and held a gathering there. They announced at the ceremony the health department staff would perform duty at the centre to treat the patients.

When reporters contacted Deputy District Health Officer Dr Bahlak Ali, he said he was unaware of the restoration or the inauguration of the centre.

Health Executive District Officer Dr Nawaz Ranjha told reporters the building had been locked and action would be taken against those who “restored” the centre.

Later, Mr Aroojul Hasan, however, retracted his statement and said he had restored the health facility with his own money, and he would arrange staff and medicines from his own money for the welfare of the public.

People, however, questioned the timing for the restoration of the health centre, saying all was being “staged” to influence the election.
