Minister visits UCs, inspects anti-dengue measures

RAWALPINDI: Provincial Minister for Agriculture Dr Farrukh Javed visited various union councils (UC) in Potohar Town and inspected the Dengue Control Team’s case response programme.

Javed, who was stationed in Rawalpind to monitor dengue control measures, was acting on the directives of Punjab chief minister.

Agriculture additional secretary Hussain Sardar, Saddar assistant commissioner Tasneem Khan, Agriculture executive district officer (EDO) Dr Shahid Sajjad and other officers accompanied the minister.

Javed visited the homes of dengue patients and verified the IRS and ‘fogging’ process according to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to combat dengue.

He also questioned field teams on the progress they have made in dengue case response in their respective areas. He said immediate action must be taken after a dengue patient is diagnosed.

The minister checked refrigerator and cooler water trays and asked local residents to follow the directives issued by their health departments.

He visited Fazal Town, Airport Housing Colony, Rehmatabad and other dengue-affected areas in Potohar Town.

He also visited various houses in the area and questioned residents on dengue surveillance, indoor larvae identification and remedial measures.

He said 10 teams from the agriculture department, including entomologists, had been engaged to clear Rawalpindi of the dengue virus.

The minister also noted uncovered overhead water tanks, and directed that they be covered. During his visits, he also called for the removal of solid waste and asked that residents’ complaints regarding health and sanitation be resolved.

Javed also visited the dengue camp set up in the Rehmatabad UC office, as well as the Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH), where he inquired about the treatment facilities for patients admitted in the dengue ward.
