LAYYAH: An alleged police torture victim is being treated for renal failure in kidney ward of the Nishtar Hospital, Multan.
The Punjab IGP has sought report from the district police officer after a section of the media reported the incident.
On the complaint of Sharaf Husain Kaheeri of Chak No. 79-B/TDA, Karor police on Sept 12 registered a case under section 365 of PPC against an unknown person for kidnapping his son Shahzaman.
Talking to Dawn, Safdar Abbas, brother of the victim, alleged that Karor SI Saifullah took Akhtar of Tibbi Khurd into custody.
He alleged that the Karor police kept his brother in lock-up for three days, brutally tortured him and handed him over to CIA police. He alleged that the CIA police kept Akhtar at different places and allegedly tortured him.
He said police told him that his brother was arrested in connection with an FIR lodged by Sharaf Husain.
It merits mentioning that some locals, including Akhtar’s father, at a punchayat handed over an affidavit to Sharaf Husain, stating that Akhtar was not involved in kidnap of Shahzaman.
Safdar Abbas alleged that his brother was forced to drink petrol which caused renal failure. He said petrol was injected into private parts of his 35-year-old brother who had been tortured with a drill machine.
Haji Rafaqat Husain, an area resident, told this correspondent that earlier police interrogated four people in connection with the kidnap case and later released them.
Akhtar Husain, a father of six daughters and a son, told newsmen at Nishtar Hospital that police allegedly injected petrol into his private parts to extract confessional statement.
He alleged that the relatives of Shahzaman -- Raza Shah, Jamshad Anwar, Parwaiz Anwar, Shahid Abbas and Ali Raza -- also thrashed him in police custody.
When contacted, police focal person ASI Irfan Ahmad categorically denied the torture allegation and said Akhtar was called along with other persons.
He said both parties were called at Karor police station after Eid again and complainant Sharaf Husain nominated Akhtar.
Karor DSP Mr. Khalid maintained that police had neither summoned nor arrested Akhtar for investigation.
