GHALANAI: Two security personnel were killed and another was injured when an improvised explosive device went off in Soran Darra area of Baizai tehsil of Mohmand tribal region on Saturday.

Officials told Dawn that the incident occurred at about 12:30pm when security personnel were patrolling the area. Those killed in the explosion were identified as sepoys Farrukh Nawaz and Aqeel Akram.

The injured, whose name could not be ascertained, was airlifted to the Combined Military Hospital in Peshawar.

Security forces cordoned off the area soon after the incident and started a search operation in surrounding localities to track down the culprits.
