KARACHI: Hot and dry weather persisted in the city third day running, sending 10 more heatstroke patients to hospitals, while meteorologists have forecast a slight drop in temperature on Saturday.

Officials at the health department said the number of total patients who visited the government-run heatstroke centres set up in various hospitals over the past three days was 25. They said all the patients remained stable as most of them were discharged after being provided medical treatment.

On Friday, according to Dr Salma Kauser who looks after the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation-run hospitals, 10 patients visited the facilities, including children and women. The condition of all the persons was said to be stable.

People generally avoided to stay outdoors in the hot afternoon, as they had been warned by the government as a precautionary measure.

Meanwhile, the weathermen said the mercury touched the mark of 41 degrees Celsius on Friday and expected that the temperature was likely to drop on Saturday.

Responding to Dawn queries, a Met official said minimum temperature recorded in Karachi was 23.5 degrees Celsius and humidity — a measure of the amount of moisture in the air — was 16 per cent.

He said the weather in the city on Saturday was expected to remain hot and dry, with maximum temperature likely to range between 37 and 39 degrees Celsius.
