Call for promoting Pashto, Balochi folk music

QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch has emphasised the need for making efforts for promoting Pashto and Balochi folk music.

Speaking at a function organised by the Pashto Academy and the provincial information ministry here on Wednesday to observe the Pakhtun culture day, he said promotion of culture was important for the development of any society.

Provincial Information Minister Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal, Minister for Planning and Development Hamid Khan Achakzai, Chief Secretary Saifullah Chattah, Senator Usman Kakar, Mayor of Quetta Dr Kaleemullah, leaders of various political parties and a large number of people from different walks of life attended the function.

The chief minister said the government had made legislation to give education to children in their native languages. He said promotion of Balochi, Brahvi and Pashto languages and cultures was the need of the hour.

Mr Ziaratwal said efforts were being made to promote the soft image of Pakhtuns and the observation of the Pakhtun culture day was part of these efforts.
