Attabad road inauguration on Sept 14
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is likely to inaugurate on Sept 14 a recently constructed 24km portion of the Korakoram Highway (KKH) and five tunnels near the Attabad Lake in Hunza.
According to the Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Naeem Khan, the ceremony was twice postponed earlier because of bad weather and some other engagements of Mr Sharif.
“If everything goes well, the prime minister will inaugurate the road on Sept 14,” Mr Khan told Dawn on Wednesday.
The part of the KKH was submerged by the Attabad Lake that developed in January 2010 after a massive landslide blocked the Hunza River for five months.
The alternative road has been built as part of the highway that links Pakistan with China.
