Call to expedite IDPs rehabilitation

PESHAWAR: The students belonging to North Waziristan Agency have urged the government to expedite rehabilitation of the displaced families and extend them sufficient financial support.

Talking to journalists at Peshawar Press Club on Friday, Shahzeb said that about 95 per cent of the area was cleared but the government was least bothered to allow them to return to their homes.

Flanked by other tribal students, he said that about three per cent internally displaced persons had returned to their homes.

The people were facing serious problems in the camps where they were in need of all facilities, he added.

“We were forced to leave our homes within three days but now the rehabilitation process is continued at a snail’s pace which has caused serious unrest among the tribal people,” the students said and added that the past four months were very harsh for them as they waited for permission to return to their homes.

They demanded of the federal government to fulfil its responsibilities and announce a comprehensive financial and developmental package for the people and the tribal region.

Earlier, the tribal youth held a protest demonstration outside the press club and chanted slogans for acceptance of their demands. They said that many of the students said goodbye to their education due to financial problems.

They demanded of the government to reconstruct and repair all the destroyed and damaged schools in Waziristan.
