Cricket classics: Waqar swings it Pakistan's way

It was a sight Pakistan fans were so used to in the 90s, they took it for granted when their team defended totals.

Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis, on their best days, needed just a few runs to play with and their performances often masked the batting failures of the team.

Waqar produced exactly one such spell against a formidable South African batting line up that seemed to cruising towards the target of 209 in the first ODI of the Total International Series at Durban in 1993.

When the dust settled, a sensational turnaround had taken place.

Kepler Wessels’ team fell short of their target by 10 runs after a brilliant century opening stand.
