Three girls shot dead, one injured for ‘honour’

SAHIWAL: A youth allegedly shot his three cousins dead and critically injured his younger sister for “honour” at Moza Paka Sadhar, Kalyana, Pakpattan district, on Wednesday.

The suspect managed to escape after committing the crime.

According to Kalyana police, the suspect, Ramzan Joya (27), son of a farmer, Subah Khan, was told by some locals that his younger sister Farzana had an affair with a village youth. He was also told that his three female cousins were confidants of his sister.

On Tuesday evening, Ramzan came home to find that Farzana and one of her cousins were not home. He suspected that the girls had gone to see Farzana’s alleged lover.

On Wednesday morning Ramzan and his sister exchanged words over the issue. In a fit of anger, Ramzan pointed his father’s gun at Farzana. Living in the same house, their three cousins rushed to save Farzana.

Meanwhile, Ramzan opened fire, leaving his cousins Sabah Bibi, Kuliya Bibi and Aseya Bibi dead on the spot and critically injuring Farzana.

On being informed of the incident Kalyana Station House Officer Rana Imran reached the spot with a police team and shifted the bodies to the Pakpattan District Headquarters Hospital.

The injured girl, who received pellets in her right arm and chest, was also shifted to the same hospital for treatment.

District Police Officer Shah Nawaz Sandhela said a police team headed by Sadar DSP Humayun Iftikhar was looking for the suspect who fled away, leaving the weapon on the crime scene.

Investigation Officer Afzal said an FIR (283/15) had been lodged under sections 302 and 324 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on the complaint of Abdul Sttar, father of Sabah Bibi.
