132KV grid station inaugurated in Gujranwala
GUJRANWALA: State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali inaugurated on Tuesday 132KV Sheranwala Bagh grid station and appreciated the Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) for it.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Abid said the government was working on various thermal and hydel projects in the country while loadshedding would be eliminated by the end of 2017 after adding 3,600MW to the national grid.
He claimed at least 60 grid stations of 132KV had been upgraded and lines erected for better and smooth supply of electricity during the last one and a half years.
He appealed to all political parties to cooperate with the government for progress and prosperity of the country.
Gepco Chief Executive Zahoor Ahmad Chohan said in his welcome address that the grid station was constructed with Rs496 million. The company would save 7.3 million units and Rs850 million per year due to reduction in line losses and its total cost/investment could be recovered within five years, he claimed.
He elaborated that about 48,000 connections would be given from a dozen feeders of the grid station benefiting 300,000 people of the area.
CASE: Sabzi Mandi police registered abduction and murder case of a minor girl on Tuesday against five people.
Complainant Izzatullah, brother of the deceased Nabeela, told police his sister was allegedly abducted by Muhammad Irfan, Anwer, Pervaiz and two unidentified accomplices four days ago over an old enmity and later her body was thrown near an under-construction house.
Police shifted the body to the DHQ hospital where doctors confirmed during an autopsy that she had been strangled. The body was handed over to her family later.
ARRESTS: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Tuesday claimed to have unearthed an illegal currency exchange firm and arrested Nadim, Khawar Naeem and Mir Shamshad in a raid at Trust Plaza.
FIA Deputy Director Khalid Anis said the raiding team led by inspectors Sajjad Bajwa and Shahid seized four laptops, a desktop computer, stamp papers, files and mobile phones from the ‘office’. He said another team led by Sub-Inspector Waqar Awan raided Aslam Bakery on G.T. Road and detected gas theft, arresting owner Muhammad Asghar after registration of a case against him.
