Hearing of plea against Pemra chief’s restoration adjourned

ISLAMABAD: A division bench of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday adjourned till September 2 the hearing of an intra-court appeal (ICA) filed by the federal government seeking to declare the restoration of the Pemra chairman null and void.

A single-member bench on May 25 restored Chaudhry Rashid Ahmed on the post after he challenged his termination. However, on June 10, the division bench while hearing the ICA suspended the restoration order.

On Monday, additional attorney general (AAG) Afnan Karim Kundi told the bench, comprising Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui and Justice Athar Minallah, that the government was trying to appoint a permanent chairman Pemra in the light of the Supreme Court directions. The apex court has directed the government to fill the post and submit a report, he added.

Mr Rashid’s counsel Barrister Wasim Sajjad could not appear before the court and the court fixed the matter for September 2 for final arguments.
