Sindh collected Rs1.4bn cess in July

KARACHI: Sindh government collected Rs1.4 billion infrastructure cess in July 2015 as compared to Rs1.2bn last year, a jump of 16.7 per cent mainly due to higher imports.

Professional tax revenue also rose by 32pc to Rs30.8 million from Rs23.3m in July 2014, sources in the Excise and Taxation Department told Dawn on Saturday.

The department cleared tax default of Rs149.8m during 2014-15, but it still faces a huge default of Rs1.3bn in infrastructure cess, due to non-payment by gold importers.

The gold importers have contested this levy on the ground that the commodity is imported in small packages and they do not use the infrastructure of the province.
