More independent councillors join ANP-led alliance

MARDAN: Independent councillors-elect of the tehsil and district councils, who belonged to Imran (Shaheed) group, on Friday announced to join the tripartite alliance for formation of the local governments in Mardan.

The independent district councillors-elect, Mian Abdur Rahman and Farrukh Seer Khan, and tehsil councillor Mumtaz Mohmand held a press conference and announced joining the alliance of Awami National Party, Pakistan Peoples Party and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl to form governments in Mardan district and its three tehsils – Mardan, Takhtbai and Katlang.

ANP district president Himayatullah Mayar, JUI-F district Ameer Maulana Qasim, PPP district president Nawabzada Aurangzeb and other local leaders of these parties were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the independent councillors said that they had joined the tripartite alliance of ANP, PPP and JUI-F for the sake of development of Mardan district.

They said that they would not compromise on the rights of the district with the commitment to make Mardan a model city during their joint local governments.

Mr Mayar claimed that another independent district councillor, Tariq Aziz, had also expressed his willingness to join their alliance a few days ago. With the joining of these independent councillors, the strength of members of the alliance had reached 59 members in the district council and 15 members in Takhtbai tehsil. — Correspondent
