LAHORE: All students of 15 colleges got through while none of another 14 institutes could pass the BA, BSc annual examinations 2015, according to the results notification issued by the Punjab University on Friday.

Punjab Education Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmed was the chief guest at the ceremony where complete results of the examinations were officially declared before awarding medals and certificates among the six top position holders.

Girls and boys of 724 colleges appeared in the annual examinations conducted in May and June this year.

Students of 32 colleges had a pass percentage between 90 and 99 while institutes having fail percentage between 50 and 99 were 254.

Among regular candidates, girls had a pass percentage of 58.92 against 42 of boys in BA. Girls were also ahead of boys in BSc by clinching 67 pass percentage against 34.06 of boys.

Minister Mashhood said the government would lay a foundation stone of country’s first-ever Knowledge Park in February next year to promote research and development.

He said the purpose of Knowledge Park was to bridge a gap between academia and industry so as to benefit the industry from the research work being carried out in universities.

He said the country’s youth was full of talent and Pakistanis were playing an important role in leading scientific and research institutions of the world.

Earlier, PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran said the average spending of the world on education was five per cent of the GDP while Pakistan was spending less than two per cent on education.

PU Controller of Examinations Prof Dr Shahid Munir said that out of 121,658 candidates, the results of only 20 candidates were late.

He said earlier a candidate who had failed in one subject was allowed to appear in supplementary examinations and now a candidate who had failed in two subjects would also be allowed.

He said that BA, BSc examinations would be held in parts from the next year and BA/BSc Part 1 annual examination would be held.

Later, degrees, shields and cash prizes of Rs100,000, Rs75,000 and Rs50,000 were separately distributed among position holders, including Ayesha Khan, Hafsa, Fasahat Fatima, Ramla Tayyab, Azhar Ali and Ume Kulsoom.
