Muneer briefs NA body on falling exports

KARACHI: National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Commerce, led by its chairman Siraj Muhammad Khan, visited the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) on Friday.

The committee was briefed on issues being faced by exporters which resulted in decline of exports.

TADP CEO S.M. Muneer said that the power crisis in the country was affecting the manufacturing sector. In Karachi water shortage also hampered industrial activity, he added.

Muneer said that a huge sum of Rs200 billion was outstanding against the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) towards exporters in duty and taxes for the last two years and this has created financial problems for exporters.

Secretary TDAP Rabiya Javeri Agha said that the authority was giving special attention to women entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises.

Wexnet, which is an event for women exporters only, will be held in December this year while Alishan Pakistan will be held next year in major cities of the world for the promotion of Pakistan’s exports, she added.
