Five ‘militants’ killed in Manghopir encounter

KARACHI: Five suspected militants were killed in an alleged encounter with law enforcement agencies in the Manghopir area in the early hours of Monday.

Officials said that a joint team of police and Rangers conducted a targeted raid on a hideout of suspected militants in Khairabad.

On seeing the law-enforcers, the suspects opened fire, wounding a policeman and a Rangers man.

The law-enforcers returned fire, killing five suspects, they added.

Two of the dead were later identified as Kamal and Hazrat, said the Manghopir SHO.

They both were residents of Sultanabad near the PIDC. They belonged to the banned TTP, added the officer.

Manghopir SHO Ghulam Hussain Korai said that the joint operation was carried out on a tip-off provided by an intelligence agency.

He added that they had reports about the presence of members of the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi and Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan there.
