Lyon’s Beauvue floors old club Guingamp

PARIS: Claudio Beauvue returned to haunt his former club Guingamp as last season’s runners-up Olympique Lyon triumphed 1-0 in Ligue 1 on Saturday.

Lyon signed Beauvue in July for a fee of 4.5 million euros ($5 million) after he scored 17 league goals last term for Guingamp, many of those playing as a winger.

He came off the bench and pounced in the 79th minute with a looping header from midfielder Jordan Ferri’s right-wing cross after Lyon had struggled for most of the game against the Brittany team who have now lost both their opening fixtures.

Lyon — who were frustrated in a goalless draw at home to Lorient in their opener last week — now have four points and are in a group of four teams joint-second behind provisional leaders Caen, the only side with a maximum six points.

Normandy side Caen continued their perfect start with another 1-0 success, this time at home to Toulouse thanks to a 70th-minute goal from centre-half Damien Da Silva.

Elsewhere, promoted Troyes scored twice in a thrilling last 16 minutes to recover from 3-1 down and hold Nice to a 3-3 draw.

Angers and Nantes shared a 0-0 draw, Kamil Grosicki’s late goal earned Stade Rennes a 1-0 victory over Montpellier and Girondins Bordeaux held St Etienne to a 1-1 draw.
