Probe into ‘burial of alive’ baby girl

TOBA TEK SINGH: The district police officer has ordered a probe into the alleged alive burial of a newly-born girl by her father.

A farmer, Khalid, of Kassi Gwansan Wali village of Pirmahal allegedly buried his newly-born daughter alive at an unknown place eight days ago, according to some locals.

According to Zahid, an employee of a Pirmahal maternity hospital, Khalid’s wife gave birth to a girl on Aug 4 night. He said soon after her birth, Khalid, his father Mahmood and an unidentified woman took the baby girl from hospital to an unknown place.

The account was confirmed by gravediggers of Kamay Shah Wali graveyard where locals usually bury their dead. They said two men and a woman wanted them to bury a newborn alive but they refused to do so.

When asked about the newborn, Khalid told residents of the village that his wife had a still birth and the “fetus” was disposed of by the hospital staff.

Zafar, a resident of the same village, said Khalid’s elder brother had six daughters. He said Khalid was so averse to having a daughter that he had divorced his first wife when she gave birth to a girl.

Khalid could not be contacted for his stance.

DPO Rana Shahzad Akbar said he had come to known about the alleged incident from some media reporters and directed Pirmahal police SHO Akhtar Saeed to probe into the matter.

He said if the allegation was proved, the suspect would be arrested.
