QUETTA: The Balochistan Assembly today adopted a unanimous resolution condemning Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain for delivering hate speeches against the state and its armed forces.

The resolution against the MQM chief was submitted by Mir Sarfaraz Bugti.

Subsequently, the resolution was voted upon, and the house unanimously adopted it.

“MQM chief’s speeches are against the country, Altaf Hussain should be tried for treason,” said Bugti.

“The MQM chief speaks in the language of Pakistan’s enemies while delivering his hate speeches. Such speeches are tantamount to treason against the country and its armed forces,” added Bugti.

The house also demanded from the federal government to contact the British government and extradite Altaf Hussain back to Pakistan.

Earlier in August, Altaf Hussain, while addressing the 19th worker's convention in Dallas, asked MQM activists to approach the United Nations and Nato headquarters in the United States and "inform them of human rights abuses against the muhajir community", according to a statement on the MQM website.

On July 30, the MQM in a letter sent to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, had claimed excesses committed by the para-military Rangers in their ongoing security operation in Karachi.

MQM has been under pressure recently after the security operation in Karachi, led by Rangers, resulted in the arrest of some of its workers and Rabita committee members for alleged offences ranging from extortion to facilitating hate speech against national institutions.
