Life satisfaction

Overall, members of sexual minorities report significantly lower levels of life satisfaction, according to a study of survey data from the UK and Australia. Among the possible contributing factors: On average, sexual-minority adults are more likely to be single, tend to have worse health and are less likely to be employed than heterosexuals, say Nattavudh Powdthavee of the London School of Economics and Mark Wooden of the University of Melbourne. In the UK, there is a particularly large differential in the life satisfaction of gay and heterosexual men, equal to more than one-third of a standard deviation in the life-satisfaction score.
